Gibson Les Paul Custom Ace Frehley Budokan Aged 3-Pickup in Sunburst finish made in 2011 with Original Ace Frehley Hardshell case. This version of the Budokan is one of 100 that were hand-aged by the Gibson Custom Shop. This guitar features a solid “pancake” 4-piece (mahogany, maple, mahogany, maple) body with a bound 3-piece maple top, 3-peice mahogany neck and bound ebony fingerboard. Equipped with DiMarzio open-coil, PAF-style humbuckers which come factory uninstalled in the neck and middle position and an installed DiMarzio Open Coil, PAF-style DiMarzio “Super Distortion” in the bridge position. Controlled by 2-volume, 2-tone knobs and a 3-way toggle switch. The 24.75″ scale length neck has mother of pearl block inlays and 22 jumbo frets with a slim 60’s neck profile. The hardware is comprised of Grover tuning machines with pearloid banjo button heads, a bone nut, an ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge with stop-tail piece and gold speed knobs with a single-ply cream pickguard.
This guitar like it’s VOS counterpart features a lot of factory specs that are more commonly found as aftermarket modifications on used and vintage guitars however these specs were included by Gibson custom shop on this signature model to more accurately re-create Ace Frehley’s Les Paul in all it’s glory. These specs include two of the three pickups uninstalled, extra tuner holes drilled on the back of the headstock, multiple strap button holes, and light relic on the tailpiece and tailpiece studs. This (aged) version of the Budokan takes the aging process several steps beyond the VOS version by re-creating the headstock repair, drill holes on the face of the headstock from a previous truss rod cover, very heavy belt-buckle rash, chips out of the finish, heavy finish checking throughout the body and neck, and vertical stress crack lines on the back of the headstock from changed tuners.
This guitar is in mint condition, and came from a collector who stored the guitar after purchase and never played it. Guitar is freshly setup and re-strung with 10-46 strings and includes original Gibson custom shop hardshell case with silk-screened Ace Frehley signature as well as the COA, factory check-list.
