Just in at Diablo Guitars is this jaw dropping 1972 Les Paul Gold Top.

This beautiful Les Paul is in very good condition considering it’s 49 years of age. All the glory and perfect mixture of tone woods settle into this guitars remarkable feel and sound. This example is a “pancake” body. Two large slabs of mahogany are mated with a thin layer of maple in between and a carved maple cap as the finishing touch. A three piece mahogany neck is topped with a beautiful deep rosewood finger board. The neck is slim and fast in your hands a boasts the large neck volute. Gibson Deluxe “double ring / double line” original tuning machines with keystone buttons adorn the oversized Gibson headstock. The all original pots and caps have been documented in the photos above. (Pot date codes read 13772 / 70-027)

This 70’s beauty weighs in at 9 pounds 15.9 ounces and you can feel and hear every ounce of tone wood in the guitar. It’s rich and resonant character is evident even when unplugged. Plugged in the guitar is just an ocean of tone. From the spanky and punchy to the warm, rich and deep, she does it all effortlessly with a deep three dimensional tonality and perfect low midrange focus. 

This gold top has been routed to facilitate full sized humbuckers by a professional luthier. (routes are documented in the photos above). The guitar has been fitted with a late 70’s to early 80’s Seymour Duncan 59NJ in the neck position. The bridge has also been fitted with a late 70’s to early 80’s Seymour Duncan 59B with a hand written decal 6295 indicating the run. These vinatge Duncans sound absolutely KILLER in this Les Paul. Luscious tone which is beyond worthy of their home in this magnificent piece of Gibson history. 

The guitar is in very good condition, there are a signs of player wear; dings and scratches, all of which have been documented in the photos above. The back of the guitar also has signs of player wear and buckle rash to be expected in a gigged and loved guitar of a bygone era. 

This ’72 Les Paul Gold Top has been freshly set up with D’Adarrio .10-.46 strings in standard tuning with low fast action. the guitar ships in it’s original. date correct, black with purple interior Gibson hard shell case.
